Indulge in Sisterhood

A letter from our Vice President Recruitment

Hey there! Welcome to the UAlberta Sororities website. I’m so excited that you’re here and wanting to learn more about all four of our wonderful chapters.

The University of Alberta is home to four international sororities: Alpha Gamma Delta, Delta Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, and Pi Beta Phi. The first Chapter was established on the UAlberta Campus in 1931, and all four organizations have been providing a home away from home for young women ever since.

“What is so great about being in a sorority anyway?” Well my friends, being in a sorority is different–that’s the best way to explain it. All sorority women are committed to holding their sisters to the highest standard, because we know they are equipped to meet them. Our sisters are accomplished, educated, dedicated, loyal, compassionate and nothing short of amazing. How many clubs will give you the opportunity to make lifelong friends, gain leadership experience, and focus on academics, while also giving back to the community through service opportunities? We strive to do great things, and I’m sure that’s what you came to do too.

“So, how do I join?” Recruitment at the University of Alberta will begin September 10, 2018 and end on September 14, 2018. Our recruitment events allow women to interact with all four sororities and decide where they fit best. If you are interested in seeing what the four sororities have to offer you, come visit us at Clubs Fair from September 3-7, 2018; we would love to meet you in person! Already convinced? Perfect, you can sign up for recruitment online soon!

To conclude, I’ll leave you with a couple pieces of advice I was given when I came through recruitment in Fall 2015:

Pick your home based off of where you want to be in four years, not where you are now – The whole point of University is to grow, and to do that you have to surround yourself with like-minded individuals that want you to succeed. Step out of your comfort zone and be your true self and I promise you are going to love it.

When you’re on the outside looking in, you don’t understand it, and when you’re on the inside looking out, you can’t explain it – Go through with recruitment–you have absolutely nothing to lose, and you may end up loving it! Some people won’t understand it and that’s fine, but what matters is how you feel about it. You won’t know how you feel about it, though, until you show up.

I hope to see you in September, and please feel free to reach out to me at any point should you have any questions!

Sending all my love your way,

Nadia Halabi
